Our Favourite Cheese and Chocolate Pairings

Our Favourite Cheese and Chocolate Pairings

It’s an age-old question: cheese or chocolate?

Here at The Cheese Society, we say: why choose? Chocolate and cheese can really complement each other, enhancing more subtle flavours on both sides.

After some rigorous taste-testing, we have shortlisted our favourite cheese and chocolate pairings that are sure to satisfy your sweet and savoury cravings.

Alpine Meadows and Milky Bar

Milky Bar and Alpine Meadows

We have longstanding cheesemonger Rachael to thank for this one! Alpine Meadows is ordinarily quite a savoury cheese; however, the sweetness of the Milky Bar brings out the milky sweetness in the cheese, but still leaves a lingering, herby flavour on the palette.

This is one of those pairings that you can’t stop thinking about.

Ferme Chèvre and Lindt Chocolate

Dazel Ash and Lindt Chocolate

This is something a little more refined, but equally as delicious.

Though not everyone is a fan of goat’s cheese, we found the milk chocolate to mellow out the flavour, creating a taste which is a little less “goaty”. The textures also pair beautifully, creating a creamy mouthful that melts on the tongue.

Aettis and Toblerone

Toblerone and Aettis

Our third suggestion comes from one of our previous Cheese and Wine Pairing Evenings. The Swiss are excellent at making cheese and chocolate, so how could we not pair these two together?

The nutty Alpine flavour of the Aettis compliments the nougat in the Toblerone. The milk chocolate flavour offers a pairing which is a little less intense than a dark chocolate pairing (though we do recommend this, too!).

Old Amsterdam and Cadbury’s Caramel

Caramel Chocolate and Old Amsterdam

Another pairing from Rachael!

Old Amsterdam is known for its caramel notes, so caramel chocolate is an obvious pairing choice. We also highly recommend accompanying Old Amsterdam with salted caramel, for that extra punch of flavour.

Baron Bigod and Terry’s Chocolate Orange

We’re finishing off our list with a classic pairing. French Brie pairs well with fruit, so this duo pays homage to this, but with a slight twist: English Brie, and orange chocolate.

You may also want to try Baron Bigod and After Eights for something a bit more decadent!
