About the Cheese Society

The Cheese Society is a family run business located in the Cathedral Quarter of Lincoln.

The Cheese Society was started by Kate in 1997 at the beginning of the Internet era, and originally sold cheese only by mail order from a small industrial unit. As the business grew, Kate took the opportunity to move into a building that had been in the family since 1957 and opened a cheese shop and cafe. Their team of expert cheesemongers freshly cut, wrap and pack all of the mail order parcels from this shop. Therefore the Cheese Team and customers get the chance to taste and interact with the wide range of cheeses all the time, resulting in a knowledgable team and excellent cheeses.

The Cheese Society is still in the same building to this day and has since evolved over time to become a popular destination for locals, visitors and cheese lovers.

Kate’s daughter, Lucie, joined the business in 2016 and brings with her a strong design background and an inherited love of cheese! Cheese is their passion and they aim to obtain the best products possible to share with customers both online and in the shop. They particularly enjoy sourcing handmade British cheeses which are sometimes only available in relatively small batches. The friendly, knowledgeable staff are always on hand to offer help, advice and tastings.
