About the Cheese Society

Founded in 1997 by Kate O’Meara, The Cheese Society is based just off the top of the High Street in the Cathedral Quarter of Lincoln and is an integral part of the area’s food history.

The Cheese Society was started at the beginning of the Internet era, and originally sold cheese just by mail order from a small industrial unit. After a couple of years Kate took the opportunity to purchase a property that had been in the family since 1957. The Cheese Society has since grown and evolved over the last nineteen years and now comprises of a shop, cheese eatery and a thriving mail order business and is a popular destination for locals and visitors alike. Kate’s daughter, Lucie, has recently joined the business and brings with her a strong design background, bags of enthusiasm and an inherited love of cheese!

They particularly enjoy sourcing handmade British cheeses which are sometimes only available in relatively small batches. The friendly, knowledgeable staff are always on hand to offer advice and tastings. Whether it be for the perfect cheeseboard, bespoke gift selection, trade and restaurant enquiries and of course Wedding Cheese “Cakes”. The Cheese Society is a family business that loves to help.
