This is a new cheese to our shelves, one we discovered on a recent trip out to the Welbeck Estate. Made by Primrose Creamery who are a small, modern artisan dairy based at the School of Artisan Food on the Welbeck Estate in Nottinghamshire. Founded by cheesemaker Jake Goldstein, it represents a new wave of British cheesemaking — one that is rooted in tradition but deliberately focused on flavour, seasonality and a close connection to place.
Eggleston Reserve is a traditional-style cheese with a firm yet creamy interior that speaks of careful, small-scale production. Its pale, natural appearance gives little away at first glance, but the texture reveals a gentle balance between crumble and creaminess. It cuts cleanly while still yielding softly on the palate, suggesting both freshness and thoughtful maturation.
Its flavour is savoury and well rounded, with notes of fresh milk, warm butter and a subtle nuttiness developing as the cheese opens up. There’s a mild tang that keeps the richness in check, giving the cheese a pleasing lift rather than heaviness. The finish is clean and satisfying, leaving a soft, lingering savouriness that encourages another bite.
