Yorkshire Blue was the first blue cheese from Shepherd’s Purse, and in 1995 it was the first blue cheese to be produced in Yorkshire in 30 years. This blue is mild, creamy and soft with striking blue veins. Made from the milk of Yorkshire cows, it has notes of sweetness, whilst retaining a buttery texture and no sharp bite – perfect for first-time blue eaters. The flavour deepens and complexifies with age, without compromising the creamy texture. The cheese is matured over eight weeks and is hand-turned each week which helps to maintain an even spread of blue and a smooth texture throughout. Yorkshire Blue was judged as the ‘Best English Cheese’ at the Nantwich International Cheese Awards in 2018, and has subsequently won gold at the 2019 World Cheese Awards, and the 2019 Great Taste Awards.
Shepherd’s Purse began its life in 1980, when they produced only sheep’s cheeses in an effort to make quality cheeses for cow’s milk allergy sufferers. Since then, they have expanded their cheese range to include cow’s milk cheeses and even a water buffalo milk cheese! They are a family-led business, with 35 artisans headed up by sisters Katie and Caroline.
Please note all cheeses are hand-cut, therefore the weights listed are approximate. We work very hard to cut them as accurately as we can!
