Made by The Davies Family on Woodbridge Farm in Sturminster Newton, Dorset. This beautiful enigma of a cheese is steeped in history and legend. Dorset Blue Vinny died out during WW2, and was resurrected in the early 1980s by Michael Davies using the original 300 year old recipe. Once made in farmhouse kitchens all over Dorset, and a favourite of Thomas Hardy, old tales tell that the blueing of the cheese was achieved by highly unorthodox methods. Some dragged a mouldy horse harness through the milk or stored the cheese next to the farmer’s dirty boots to encourage the mould to grow! Dorset Blue Vinny is still made at Woodbridge Farm, using milk from their own herd of Friesian Dairy Cows but to far superior methods. The cheese has a subtle delicate flavour, creamy and crumbly. Delicious on a sweet digestive biscuit.
