Cheddar Gorge Vintage is made by The Cheddar Gorge Cheese Company in the village of Cheddar, Somerset. The family owned, small artisan cheesemakers have earned awards from around the world. The Cheddar Gorge Cheese Company is the only producer of cheddar cheese in the village of Cheddar, Somerset and have been making traditional cheddar cheese since 2003.
Cheddar Gorge Vintage is made from unpasteurised cows milk taken from local cows that graze in the lush pastures surrounding Cheddar in Somerset. The pastures that the cows graze on influence the milk which in turn influences the cheese. The cheeses are matured for between 24 and 30 months to allow the cheese to develop its distinctive flavour and texture. The longer the maturation process the more depth of flavour the cheese has.
Cheddar Gorge Vintage is a vegetarian, robust strong cheese. Once Cheddar Gorge Vintage has been tasted the strong flavour develops in the mouth and lingers. This is a traditional classic cheddar, hard in texture with a nutty crunch. Although the cheese holds it own on any cheeseboard, the cheese can also be enjoyed simply with crackers and pickles.
We hand cut all of our cheeses so our weights are approximate, we try to be as accurate as we can.
